One of three forts designed to protect the mouth of the Columbia River, Fort Stevens is an essential part of any visit to Astoria, especially on a sunny day. Did you know? The Peter Iredale Shipwreck is likely one of the most famous features of Astoria's beach. The Peter Iredale ran ashore in 1906 as it navigated the treacherous waters of the Columbia River and has been there since. This stretch of coast was known as the “Graveyard of the Pacific”.

Climb the Astoria Column for views of the town, the Columbia River, and the Astoria-Megler Bridge. You might even spot the Goonies House at just the right angle (but you should also drive by that one – easily accessible on the way in our out of town if you're coming from Portland through Astoria). Several walking tours up north in Astoria (I can't personally attest to these but they have a good rep!
